Hanshi. Esuki Akamine was a highly respected Kobudo master known for his dedication to preserving and teaching traditional Okinawan martial arts. His knowledge, discipline, and contribution to Kobudo inspired many students around the world.
One of his distinguished students is Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma, who continues to carry forward his teachings and techniques. We are honored to learn and practice this traditional art through this respected lineage.
Their legacy continues to guide and inspire our martial arts journey.
10th Dan — Red Belt | GrandMaster
Born in Okinawa, Hanshi Shiroma began training at age 14 under Shimu Masau and became a dedicated pupil of O'Sensei Nagamine. Following his master's passing he founded the Bukenkan — "Art Focus School" — continuing the lineage.
10th Dan — Red Belt | Chief India
Hanshi S. Rajamani is the first 10th Dan Red Belt in Karate in India. He has travelled to Okinawa multiple times for training and was personally invited to serve as a referee in world tournaments in 2003, 2009, and 2018. Under Grand Master Katsuo Shiroma, he earned his 10th Dan and became the first Red Belt holder in India.
He formally started training in Karate and Kobudo under Hanshi Kuppuswamy (Malaysia). With over 50 years of dedication, he has promoted traditional Karate and Kobudo across India. His legacy in martial arts is monumental, reflecting discipline, perseverance, and dedication.
8th Dan — Black Belt | All India President
Kyoshi S.R. Arun, current president of Bukenkan India, holds 8th Dan Black Belt under Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma. He has mastered multiple arts including Karate, Kobudo, Judo, Jujitsu, and Silambam. He has traveled multiple times to Okinawa, Japan, and served as a referee in global events.
He has organized prestigious seminars and tournaments that strengthened international martial arts ties. Through his voluntary organization 'Venba', he supports the elderly and underprivileged with food and shelter, embodying the true spirit of a martial artist.
Ryukyu Kobudo refers to the weapon systems of Okinawan martial arts. Ryukyu Kobudo was developed and systemized by O'Sensei Taira Shinken, who organized and codified the traditional weapon arts of Okinawa.
Ryukyu Kobudo uses traditional weapons including:
Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma trained in Kobudo under Hanshi Eisuke Akamine, who was the successor of O'Sensei Taira Shinken. The Bukenkan dojo also trains students in the art of Kobudo.
Hanshi S. Rajamani and Kyoshi S. R. Arun also trained in Kobudo under Hanshi Katsuo Shiroma and continue to train students in the art of Kobudo in India.
